Action Fraud has received over 700 reports from members of the public about fake emails purporting to be from the NHS. The emails claim to be able to provide people with a “digital passport” that “proves you have been vaccinated against COVID-19”. These emails are fake, and the links within them lead to genuine-looking websites that steal your personal and financial information.

How to protect yourself:

In the UK, coronavirus vaccines will only be available via the National Health Services of England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland. You can be contacted by the NHS, your employer, a GP surgery or pharmacy local to you, to receive your vaccine. Remember, the vaccine is free of charge. At no point will you be asked to pay.

  • The NHS will never ask you for your bank account or card details.
  • The NHS will never ask you for your PIN or banking passwords.
  • The NHS will never arrive unannounced at your home to administer the vaccine.
  • The NHS will never ask you to prove your identity by sending copies of personal documents such as your passport, driving licence, bills or pay slips.
  • Your vaccination status can be obtained for free through the official NHS app, NHS website, or by calling the NHS on 119.

How to report scams:

If you receive a call you believe to be fraudulent, hang up. If you are suspicious about an email you have received, you can report it by forwarding the email to: report@phishing.gov.uk. Suspicious text messages can also be reported by forwarding them to the number: 7726 (it’s free of charge).

If you believe you are the victim of a fraud, please report this to Action Fraud as soon as possible by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting www.actionfraud.police.uk.

Marsworth Food Bank

The churches of Marsworth, Ivinghoe/Pitstone and Slapton have operated a joint foodbank. It has been invaluable to a significant number of families and individuals, especially at the height of the pandemic. However, Ivinghoe/Pitstone has seen a reduction in demand and decided to phase out the current arrangements. Marsworth Parochial Church Council believes it right to continue this Updatesupport for as long as possible and hope that users will notice little difference.

Fresh food is essential (hence the importance of cash donations - see below) but also tinned meats, pies etc, tinned fish, soups, marmalade/jam, pasta/pasta sauces together with tinned fruit and teas and coffees. Biscuits and chocolate snack bars (Penguins and Kit-Kats etc) are also much appreciated.

Please continue to support the foodbank - contributions have been reducing and they will be even more important going forward. Those wishing to make donations of food and household items, please drop these off in the box in the lych-gate at the church, or directly to Richard/Lisa Cooper (01296 661725) at Karibu – at the top of Vicarage Gardens. All donations appreciated but, as mentioned, we shall try to let people know what is most needed. Generally speaking, our users live alone and are more senior than junior so jumbo packs etc are of limited value.

Cash donations - Financial donations are also greatly welcome so anybody wishing to make a donation please direct it to Jenny Sheils (the PCC Treasurer: 01296 668230) at Leveret Lodge, just opposite the church lych-gate. Donations can either be ‘one-off’ or, if preferred, by standing order. Either way, the value of your donation to the foodbank can be increased by 25% at no cost to yourself if you are able to sign a Gift Aid declaration. Jenny has the details for setting up a standing order and Gift Aid forms. If you are already making regular payments to the joint foodbank and would like to amend this to Marsworth, can you please contact Jenny and she will assist in transferring your standing order to the Marsworth Church account.

If any Marsworth reader is experiencing hardship or knows of somebody who may be, please contact Richard or Jenny to ask for help. Either they or one of our volunteers will get in touch - in strictest confidence.

Thank you.
Richard Cooper, Stephen Wooley, Jenny Shiel
